Message below regarding the upcoming event run by the Brighton Excelsior CC tomorrow

Brighton Excelsior Cycling Club have taken the very sad decision to CANCEL our Early Season 11’s event due to have been held at Washington Village Hall tomorrow,Sunday 20 January.

In view of the road conditions and anticipated further snowfall, we have concluded that the risk to safety of riders and other road users is to be avoided.

The Club apologises for any inconvenience caused and we hope to see some of you at our evening club events and Open events throughout the year..

Please can you circulate this update immediately to anyone who you have told about tomorrow and  think may have intended to join us for what has always been an enjoyable social event to avoid them making the unnecessary and dangerous  journey to Washington Village Hall in the morning.

Don’t forget I would still like to know if anyone has broken a course record during 2012 for the records.

Thank you and see you on the line.

Su B

The club have decided to cancel both the Sunday rides (20th january) and Saturday social ride (19th January)

This is due to the adverse weather that's upon us and makes it unsafe for cycling, especially over night once it freezes.

Message from the Brighton Excelsior Cycling Club with an open invite to pop along for a bacon sandwich, cup of tea and mostly likely cycling talk. Message below

Hi Everyone.

Happy New Year

I want to let you know that on the 20th January 2013 from 10.30am till 12pm in Washington Village Hall, we are having our early season elevens event, which we would like to invite you and your clubs mate too.

It’s our way of having all our club mates, and friends from other clubs come and join us for a bacon butty and cuppa and catch up with all the gossip and news before the racing season really starts with the Southdown Bikes event on the 3rd February.

There will be a RAFFLE full of things that you just did not even know that you wanted.

Plus the big news is that the 2013 Yellow Handbook will be on sale.

Why don’t you use it as your training ride  refreshment break or your weekend club run breakfast stop, either way you are guaranteed a warm welcome and a hot drink

Please can you pass on this invite to your club mates and I look forward to seeing you then

Take care

Su B

P.S. it’s also the time of year when I do my best to update the course records sheet,  so if you either broke a course record/promoted an event where a record was broken/have a club mate that has broken a record/was riding in an event where the course record was broken

PLEASE let me know.

Finsbury Park - Reliability Ride PDF Print E-mail

A message from Sam Parker from Finsbury Park Cycle Club regarding their annual Reliability Ride. See the message below for more details.

Hi all,

The Finsbury Park Cycling Club is once again holding its annual Reliability Trial through the lanes of Hertfordshire in aid of Road peace, the organization campaigning for Road Safety and for justice for the victims of crashes caused by reckless or careless driving.

There are two routes – a 50km and a 100km – and route cards will be given out at the HQ on the day. The long route heads North, skirts Hertford and continues West between Hitchin and Stevenage. It then turns South through rolling country before returning to Potters Bar through the short sharp hills of ‘Little Switzerland’. The shorter route turns South earlier but has its share of ups and downs too.

The entry fee is a nominal £5 and refreshments will be available at the HQ.

Further info is available from Sam Parker  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

I would be extremely grateful if you could circulate this information and the attached posters and flyer to your membership. Any extra promotion within local bike shops and forwarding of this email would also be of great help.

I look forward to seeing many riders out on the 17th of February.

Many thanks in advance for your time.

Kind regards

Sam

Welcome to this week’s update.  It’s not long until Christmas now but good to see everyone hasn’t quite given into the Christmas Chocs just yet and are still getting out on the bikes.

Saturday Christmas Lunch – Henfold Lakes

A large group turned out for the ride to Henfold Lakes.  We split into two groups, the fast group and the faster group!  We managed to time the run to perfection and the two groups met just down the road from Henfold Lakes and rode the last mile or so together.

26 stopped for the meal and tucked into some hearty grub.  The plates were piled high and the food was lovely.  I believe a good time was had by all, I know I had a great time!

Well done to Simon for organising such a great Christmas lunch.  And well done to Julienne for her fantastic skills in riding all the way back to Haywards Heath wearing a pirate’s eye patch and plastic moustache!

Sunday Club Run/Intermediate Ride

At the time of writing, I have not received any reports on the Sunday Club Run which was due to go to Petworth, but was changed to Wisborough Green.  However, I understand the intermediate ride went to the Elms at Chartwell Barns and it sounds like everyone had a good time.

Cyclo-Cross – South and East of England Cyclo-Cross Championships, Bethlem Hospital, London

We had a good showing of Wheelers at the Cyclo-Cross Championships.  Well done to everyone who took part.

The junior/veteran/women results are as follows:-

Well done to Dougie who was 2nd in the 50+ category.

Marshalling/Event Volunteering 2013

One new idea the Club are implementing for next year is when you renew your Club subscription at the start of 2013 you will be asked to nominate which of our open race events you would like to help out at.  We have never made it a Club rule that members must help and hope we can rely upon our members volunteering for the various events without having to chase people as the events approach.

The next event where your assistance will be required is the Cyclo-Cross Team Championships which will be held near Haywards Heath on Sunday, 10 February 2013.  The time trials are scheduled for Sunday, 9 June 2013 and Saturday, 20 July 2013.  The two road races being held on Sunday, 8 September 2013.

Next weekend – Riding

The Saturday Social Ride will be meeting in Crawley at Virgin Active at 9.45am for a 10.00am start.  Route to be confirmed.

In Haywards Heath, meet at the Dolphin at 8.00am.  Route to be confirmed – check Facebook as Dougie often posts a route up a few days beforehand.

This week’s Club Run is due to go to Hartfield, stopping at Perryhill Orchards.  As usual, meet at Virgin Active at 9.30am.  Check the website for any changes.

If anybody wants to write a few lines about the rides/runs then please do email me before next Wednesday’s update.

Turbo Sessions

I am sure you are all aware of the Turbo Sessions running on a Tuesday night in Crawley at Garry Christopher’s house (8pm start) and on a Wednesday night at Warden Park School in Cuckfield (7.30pm start).  Further information is available in the Calendar section of the website.

Next weekend – Racing
