Club Time Trial Results #5
The weather during the afternoon leading up to Round 5 of the club Time Trial Series had been especially horrid with strong rains and torrential downpours. Therefore it was a surprise that there were more riders than volunteers on what was still a breezy and cooler than expected evening. The conditions weren’t conducive to quick times, around a minute slower than the previous week.
It was a close contest for the top 3 places, which all went to riders on road bikes, with Gary Thayre taking his first outright victory of the year in a time of 27.08. Tom Lund knocked nearly two minutes off his previous best this year, pushing Gary all the way to the line and recording 27.19 in the process. Just 22 seconds further back and completing the top three was Julie Briggs in 27.41. Darren Boakes was next through with 28.18 on his road bike beating Neil Ware who had a rare outing on his time trial bike, finishing in a time of 29.13. Arguable the ride of the day was put in by Rikki Palmer in not just his first time trial on this course but his first ever time trial. Despite the disadvantages of not knowing how fast the corners could be taken and how to pace the ride optimally he was only just outside the 30 minute barrier denoting a 20mph ride. Doubtless there’ll be big improvements seen in his 30.18 as he gains in experience over the rest of the season. Guest Colin Gray from Norwood Paragon rode his time bike bike to 28.27.
With time adjustments based on age and sex it was no surprise to to Julie Briggs at to the top of the VTTA age adjusted results for the second time this year.
